Fraggles are the sections in a page that are marked with different tags in the URL visible as http://www.exaple.com/article#TAG.

Fraggles used to be almost irrelevant as far as SEO is concerned. Today, however, many experts even recommend adding these URLs in the sitemap. This used to be extremely unwanted since it results in duplicate content. But, this issue is now gone as Google shows several of these URLs as standalone pages in its Search Console.

https://moz.com/blog/the-importance-of-fraggles

Google has actually been supporting “fraggles” since prehistory or as far back as 2009 (https://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/jump-to-information-you-want-right-from.html). But, this view changed recently. It is not a separate line this time and instead, the link is already directly integrated into the description. This functionality has also come to life not too long ago.

What is this all about?

This website is a good example https://www.storitev.com,

Example of fraggles in search results

How is this result achieved?

This article https://www.storitev.com/auto-moto/majasnejsi-saj- auto-mobil–motor/ contains a TOC (Table Of Content).

TOC (Table Of Content) on Storitev.com

This article also includes labels on the subtitles.

What does it mean as far as SEO is concerned?

There is now a new tool that has made it relatively easier to expand the set of landing pages. One common issue with such pages it that it has become inappropriate for the page to post almost thrice identical content for three words that are closely related. This allows you to come up with a landing page for three or more different words from a single article that can rank independent or as part of a whole.

It is important to equip all informative content.

<li> <a href="#Keyword Subtitle"> Keyword Subtitle </a> </li>

However, interspaces are being referred to as

<span id = "Keyword Subtitle"> Keyword Subtitle </span>

Any of these combinations can be a new targeted keyword and a new landing page.

There is a chance that your pages have been logged in to GSC or Google Search Console that receives alerts on a regular basis from Google regarding page problems. These alerts can range from anything such as search reports of the previous month, inaccessibility of a page, and mobile site problems. It means that many of you are used to getting these alerts that you no longer pay attention to them.

If so, it is likely that you overlooked or even failed to receive the latest message from GSC last March 2019 that is somewhat different from previous alerts.

What message from GSC means?

The message from GSC means that Google already started considering structural information as one factor in page quality. This is something that has been under monitoring ever since the expansive mobile search engine switch that happened last August.

Example of the message from GSC

When you speak of structural data, it means that the pages include additional information in a particular product case. The information cannot be seen on the page as this is included in the code. A good example is from the Structural Data Testing Tool of Google https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/u/0/.

It may seem quite complicated but you don’t have to worry

Most of the time, the issue can be solved with the installation of the right plugin. WordPress, for instance, supports Yoast basics installed on many WordPress installations. There are also dedicated plugins such as https://wordpress.org/plugins/schema-and-structured-data-for-wp/.

This is also applicable to the rest of the CMSs

For Magento Amasty (https://amasty.com/magento-google-rich-snippets.htm/) or Magmodules (https://www.magmodules.eu/schema-org-rich-snippets.html) being the most popular plugin developer but there are still a lot more.

The module for Prestashop is https://addons.prestashop.com/en/seo-natural-search-engine-optimization/31857-seo-structured-data-schema-markup-rich-snippet .html.

The solutions are available for all systems. These come at affordable prices and some are even free. Make sure you install them right away.

As far as the SEO business world is concerned, Google Weather Forecast is considered as more important compared to true weather forecasts. This is why there are now many emerging services that let you stay updated with all the happenings in Google Index.

These “weather forecasts” are based on quite simple principles. This is published by the services monitoring hundreds, thousands, and millions of words. This so-called “weather” depends on numerous changes for the past few hours including all the stormy weather.

Moz.com

MOZ.com has the most basic and most commonly mentioned Google weather forecast for the past 30 days.

https://moz.com/mozcast/

The only concern with the prediction is the fact that it is only limited for the past 30 days that make it impossible to compare this with the past major “storms.”

Mozcast

Algoroo.com

Moz forecast issue gets rid of Algoroo and allows tracking of changes for an extended period of time.

https://algoroo.com/

Semrush.com

SEMRush is keeping track of the changes according to the category. This is a helpful piece of information because individual categories or segments of the index are rarely targeted.

https://www.semrush.com/sensor/

Rankranger.com

RankRanger is another addition that allows tracking changes at the national level. Many changes to the algorithm of Google are initially introduced in the US and there are several days delay with most default changes in Europe. Several changes happened at the same time for the rest of the countries with some taking months before they appeared or got introduced in other countries.

https://www.rankranger.com/google-serp-features

Searchmetrics.com

“Gainers and losers” by countries – results by domain names:

https://suite.searchmetrics.com/en/research

Serpmetrics.com

Aside from tracking the changes in Bing, this doesn’t matter in most c Central and Eastern European markets yet Bing still has a substantial share of the market of search engines in the US.

https://serpmetrics.com/flux/

Moz list of changes of Google algorithm

After some time largest changes appear in Moz list (confirmed/unconfirmed)

Google announced a few alterations not too long ago that have a big influence on-site positions. Based on the new search engine position, this will not be determined anymore by the traditional web page users see on their desktop or computer. Instead, it is about the mobile version viewed on a mobile phone or tablet.

This change has now happened and if you ever notice a bigger drop in your traffic than the usual drop, it is possibly because of the errors that your mobile site has. The majority of these errors don’t have any direct relationship to SEO parameters but are instead related to the site’s technical parameters.

Technical reviews and settings are some of the tasks that your website maintenance team should do.

How will you know that your mobile website is doing great?

There are two free tools from Google that can be used for now.

Mobile-Friendly Testing Tool

(https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly)

Example of mobile friendly test result

Tester built into Chrome browser:

Click on the menu.

Click on More Tools.

Click Developer Tools.

A window is going to pop up where you can choose the mobile version.

After choosing the mobile version, just click on Audit.

Select the Full Review option.

Get the report.

Some of the most common errors that are found in these reviews include the following:

The menu’s second level doesn’t load in the site’s mobile version.

There is a full-screen confirmation of the cookies. This is also applicable to contact forms and ads.

The full version doesn’t load the whole footer particularly the part that contains business information that can greatly affect the results of the local hits.

Not every JavaScript script gets loaded in the site’s mobile version.

Not all the images get to upload in the site’s mobile version.

SSL certificates are not uploaded to the mobile version of the website.

The text is too small to read in the mobile version.

Many tested pages are slower in mobile versions compared to the desktop versions. This may result in significant drops in search positions. It is recommended to use AMP pages that can help speed up the performance of a mobile website: https://www.ampproject.org/ (plugin for WordPress – https://github.com/Automattic/amp-wp/releases/)

Hreflang (Syntax: https://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_a_hreflang.asp) is the website attribute that has long been taken for granted and overlooked. But, Google recently started to express itself as the search engine tries getting more precise local results to deliver the best results to its users.

While the use of the website tag has been recommended for a while now, it was only because of the purpose of getting several Multi Language pages on a single domain. Today, the tips and instructions include pages sharing the same or closely related content across different domains.

One particularly important thing here is using the designation in the languages spoken in some countries, usually German and English, and most notably, for the customers in countries of former Yugoslavia that include Montenegro, Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia.

Although countries have varied principal languages, the barrier can sometimes be an issue for those who speak any of the languages so Google wouldn’t encounter any problem. There are even place where there are issues even between Croatian and Slovenian languages, particularly in areas where the names of the product in the two languages are the same and a certain language variant is much older than another.

Technical Specifications

The best definitions and explanations can be found on the Google website. But since the article was technically written, things will be explained more plainly here.

If there are previously entered hreflang tags on the page, you will be able to check if they are correct at https://technicalseo.com/seo-tools/hreflang/.

The link to the online hreflang tag generator is https://www.aleydasolis.com/english/international-seo-tools/hreflang-tags-generator/. Since this is only a code generation tool, the code may be correct but there might be instances when the generated code might not provide logical content.

How to Solve the Problem

Write down all domains first or the domain’s subdirectories like example.com. example.si, example.hr, example.it or if you got several language variants on subfolders it can be example.com/en, example.com/en, example.com/en, example.com/it.

If there is a page that should be shown to everyone, you can choose this as default. Below is the correct notation for the example given above if the domains have been used and you want to show the site’s English version to everyone except those with pages for the specific languages;

<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com" hreflang = "x-default" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com" hreflang = "en" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.si" hreflang = "sl" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.hr" hreflang = "hr" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.it" hreflang = "it" />

For cases in which subdirectories are being used:

<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com/en" hreflang = "x-default" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com/en" hreflang = "en" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com/si" hreflang = "sl" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com/hr" "hreflang =" hr "/>
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com/it" hreflang = "it" />

It is very important for the records to be in the said format on every linked page in order to get the results. As for pages logged in to Google Search Console, there might be an error message that will pop up on pages that don’t return hreflang links.

The Problem of Multiple Countries or Languages

When it comes to the issue of several languages in different countries, the focus will be on the former Yugoslavia countries including Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina since a lot of German and English-speaking cases were already published.

Two common examples will be used here, one in which the company only got one website such as primer.hr and the other wherein the area is covering two pages – primer.rs and primer.hr. These are the two variants most typically used among companies in Slovenia. Here, only those records that pertain to the countries mentioned are going to be provided. As for the entire block, it is important to add the rest of the countries and the selection of a default page.

1st Example: Cover one country with only one example.hr site.

Start by thinking of the simplest option. The Croatian search engine will be only one covered. The only record is enough here.

<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com/hr" "hreflang =" hr "/>

When limiting hits exclusively to Croatia, a modification will be added:

<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.com/hr" "hreflang =" hr-hr"/>

Croatian searches that are outside Croatia will be excluded.

The example may read logically but the setting may lose 5% to 10% of the users in Croatia performing a search through the non-Croatian search engines with non-Croatian language set.

Thus, to cover all the missing populations of Croatia, additional languages must be added.

<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.hr" hreflang = "hr-hr" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.hr" hreflang = "sr-hr" />
<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.hr" hreflang = "bs-hr" />

But, it is still possible that you would want to cover the rest of the countries that were mentioned above using the page. In this case, the issue will be solved using this record:

<link rel = "alternate" href = "http://www.example.hr" hreflang = "hr" />
<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.hr" hreflang="sr" />
<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.hr" hreflang="bs" />

2nd Example: Cover two countries with two domains example.hr and example.rs

Again, the most logical choice is to cover one language with each domain:

<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.hr" hreflang="hr" />
<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.rs" hreflang="sr" />

Or, to restrict the language to a country:

<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.hr" hreflang="hr-hr" />
<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.rs" hreflang="sr-rs" />

According to example 1, the structure can be very complicated, but our suggestion is to make language priority in this case (Croatia is in the EU, the rest are outside the EU). So our recommendation of the labels would be:

<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.hr" hreflang="hr" />
<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.rs" hreflang="sr" />
<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.rs" hreflang="bs" />
<link rel="alternate" href="http://www.example.rs" hreflang="sr-me" />

Conclusion

Hreflang settings certainly have an impact on how to show the right search engine results. But this is not a magic wand that would cause huge leaps in our positions. Again, this change occurs gradually so that other / correct results begin to appear between hits within one to two weeks, usually in the same positions as the previous hit. But it can also be very important if, for example, we are able to rank in Croatia with croatian site instead of the Serbian side due to this setting.
